Our Curriculum: Mathematics
By studying mathematics and statistics, students develop the ability to think creatively, critically, strategically and logically. They learn to structure and to organise, to carry out procedures flexibly and accurately, to process and communicate information and to enjoy intellectual challenge.
Mathematics courses are offered to students in Years 9 – 13, based on the NZ Mathematics Curriculum levels. Qualifications entered for are NCEA level 1-3 and NZ Scholarship.
Students are encouraged to enter the Mathematics competitions run annually at regional, national and international level. These competitions stimulate problem solving skills in a competitive environment.
Courses
Year 13: Maths with Calculus, Maths with Statistics, Statistics
Year 12: Maths Advanced, Mathematics, Mathematics with Applications
Year 11: Mathematics Advanced, Mathematics, Mathematics with Applications
Year 9 and 10: Students are placed in classes based on results. Teaching is modified to cater for differing abilities and needs.
